La Paresse en Douce

La Paresse en Douce lies on the outskirts of the village of Tours sur Meymont (623m) between the picturesque foothills of the Monts du Livradois and the gorges of the river Dore.

La Paresse en Douce means, freely translated, ‘lovely laziness’ and that is exactly what we offer you: time to relax combined with delicious meals and a good night’s rest.

La Paresse en Douce is a pleasant bed and breakfast situated in the quiet Auvergne region of France with its unspoilt countryside, beautiful panoramas and typically French villages.
When you want to get acquainted with this area a stay in one of the rooms of La Paresse en Douce is a good idea.

La Paresse en Douce is a renovated cottage where slowing down comes automatically.

Our ‘maison d’hôtes’ is a sturdy, large period property which dates back to the 17th century and was originally a monastery.
In the 19th century a notary set up a practice here, but later the house reverted to a private residence.
Many original details have been uncovered during the renovation: old doors and fittings, sinks, a cellar, a chapel and secret hatches; all of this is surrounded by extremely thick walls.
These authentic features have been enhanced by the sympathetic renovation that now offers a simple rural interior design which creates a warm and pleasant atmosphere.

We have 5 spacious and attractive rooms of which many of the old features have been preserved.
All of the bedrooms have comfortable super king size beds. If required and available, we can provide twin beds.
Every room has its own modern bathroom with a spacious shower, toilet and large washbasin.
And we have not forgotten the reading lights by the bed and in the sitting area!

The lounge is the former notary’s office. Here you can relax, read a book, watch television, play the piano, have an aperitif etc.
On cold days we will light the fire.
Adjacent to this you will find the chapel which we have equipped as a library.

If the weather is not too good we will serve breakfast and dinner in the dining room which has a large table that is also suitable for reading a magazine or playing games.

The garden has several terraces.
The nearest to the house is where we usually serve breakfast and dinner.
There is a higher situated sun terrace and a small cosy terrace with panoramic views – on clear days you can see the Puy de Dome!

In the walled garden is a swimming pool that is suitable for children.

Did you ever take a hot bath out under the stars or in the snow?
During the whole year, except July and August, you can have a nice warm bath in our outdoor, firewood-heated hot tub.
The combination of warm water, fresh air and a pleasant atmosphere will make disappear stress and tiredness.

We ourselves like lingering at the dinner table. Preferably outside on the terrace with a good glass of wine together with friends and family.
We would like to share this with you. In the evening you can pull up a chair at our ‘table d’hôte’.
We prepare a four-course dinner for you with fresh regional produce and with herbs from our kitchen garden (6 times a week).
Henk adores cooking, not only French cuisine but dishes from all over the world.

We have varied, colourful and scented menus, for example: a cappuccino of fennel, salad with fourme d’ambert, pear and walnuts, Indian currysoup with chicken and apple, French tomato pie, redfish with a tomato-tarragonsauce, magret de canard with cherries and sweet potatoe, Italian beef stew, Auvergne cheeses, apricot pie with lavender, tarte au citron…

A stay here means: relaxation, good food and drinks and conversations with other guests under an overwhelming star-spangled sky.

If you wish, your children can enjoy our children’s table d’hôte earlier in the evening. We prepare them a 2-course menu.

You will find all of the facilities and convenience of a small hotel combined with a friendly and relaxed feel of a home.
